Lawton Special Needs School Holds Talent Show

Posted: Updated:

Lawton, Okla._ A group of special needs students showed off their talents Thursday for the first ever Starz Shine Talent Show and Exhibition.

The event included singing, dancing and artwork, all done by students at Lawton's Gateway Academy.

Senior, Camber Colligan, showcased her dancing skills and it was something she has always dreamed of doing.

Colligan said, "Since I was younger, I wanted to dance and I lived my dream."

Budding artist, Josh Mason, displayed his chalk art -- a talent he's been working on for a year now.

"Just thought it would be a good idea to scribble on the side walk while we were outside one time and been doing it ever since," said Mason.

Organizers say the students of Gateway Academy are multi-talented, and Thursday's show gave them all a chance to shine.

"We had one student who exhibited some artwork to me and from there we just felt that we would give all the students an opportunity," said teacher and event organizer Baron Walker.

He said the show was a success and they hope to continue it next year.
