Student brings unloaded gun to Dumas school

Posted: Updated:

Dumas, TX - When a gun surfaced on the campus of a Morningside Elementary School in Dumas early Friday morning officials were in action and had the weapon confiscated in a matter of minutes.

The superintendent of Dumas ISD Mark Strobel says a ten year old boy did bring a handgun to school in his backpack but when the student showed the gun to some of his friends, the other students immediately reported it to a teacher.

Administrators quickly took the gun and pulled the student from class. They discovered the gun was not loaded nor did the boy have any ammunition.

Strobel says the student had no intentions of hurting anyone.

The district sent out a tweet about the incident Friday afternoon, but had not contacted any parents about the incident.
