Posted: Updated:

An early morning house fire in Amarillo left one family of four without a home and their family pet.

The Amarillo Fire Department responded to the house fire at 1606 NW 20th Saturday morning just after six. Heavy fire engulfed the back of the structure, but firefighters had the main body of the fire out within a few minutes. One adult and three children were able to escape without injury, but one pet was killed in the blaze.

The fire caused an estimated loss of about $15,000. The Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) did respond and was able to provide the family with clothing, food and temporary housing.

So far, the cause of the fire has been ruled undetermined.
