Mardi Gras Party raises money for Family Support Services

It was time to do a little Mardi Gras celebrating in Amarillo Saturday night and hundreds gathered at the Amarillo Civic Center for the festivities.

A sell-out crowd of about 450 people packed the Regency Room for Family Support Services Mardi Gras Party. The event featured the Velvet Funk Band, a casino, silent and live auctions, and of course Cajun food galore. All of the money raised for the event will benefit Family Support Services and the services they provide for victims of domestic or sexual abuse.

"It helps us to keep the lights on, it helps us with our overhead that we have to do," said on organizer of the event. "Plus it creates awareness, so we want people to understand what Family Support Services is all about and what we can do to help families so that's another reason why we do these fund raisers for people to understand and learn about our agency."

Organizers say this event has grown each year, so much so that they've had to change event venues every year they've hosted this event.

Take nothing for granted.  A reverse way of saying be grateful for every day, but it makes sense.

How about we give more specific responsibilities to the LG's office so we don't wonder what the position is expected to do?

As more and more people are seemingly jumping into the local 2018 lieutenant governor's race, two questions come to mind: how about we give more specific responsibilities to the LG's office so we don't wonder what the position is expected to do?
