Higher Learning Commission examines courses at WOSC

Posted: Updated:

Altus, Okla._Western Oklahoma State College got a visit from the Higher Learning Commission this week. The HLC arrived at the WOSC campus on Sunday to examine the once offered 10-day online courses at the college that came under criticism.

HLC officials finished up their study on the accelerated courses on Tuesday.

Last November, the college was criticized by the "Chronicle of Higher Education", which pointed out larger college athletic programs were using the courses to keep athletes eligible.

At the end of January, the school announced they would no longer offer the 10-day classes.

That decision came just hours after a report from the Oklahoma Regents for Higher Education which called on the school to eliminate them.

An HLC official says it will take several weeks before the results from their visit will be released.
