OK House Panel to Consider Drought Relief Fund

Posted: Updated:

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla_ Oklahoma could set up an emergency fund to deal with this ongoing drought.

That's what's on tap Wednesday for a House panel to consider. The House Appropriations and Budget Committee met Wednesday to look at a bill that would put the fund on the books.

The bill calls for at least $10M to be available in the event of a drought disaster. The proposal follows the worst drought in decades and several declarations of drought disasters across the Midwest region.

Exceptional Drought persists in the nation's midsection, and climatologists say it could continue at least through the spring.
