Woman crashes into ambulance, charged with DWI

Amarillo, TX - A late-night accident with an ambulance leaves an Amarillo woman behind bars.

Police say 48 year-old Melody Gaye Jewell struck an ambulance that was stopped at a traffic light at St. Francis and Dumas Drive just after 12:30 Friday morning.

Jewell reportedly showed signs of intoxication and was arrested for DWI and booked into the Potter County jail.

During the investigation, officers also learned she was texting while driving.

One of paramedics in the ambulance was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
