TULSA, Okla. (AP) - The leader of a Tulsa
megachurch could be called to testify in two cases alleging her ministry
failed to promptly report allegations of child abuse to the proper
authorities.
Victory Christian Center co-founder and senior
pastor Sharon Daugherty has been relatively quiet about the scandal that
rattled the 17,000-member church last fall, but that may soon change.
Her son and daughter-in-law are among five church
employees who are each charged with one misdemeanor count of waiting two
weeks to report allegations that a 13-year-old girl had been raped on
ministry property in August.
The five could face up to a year in jail.
The worldwide ministry also faces a civil lawsuit
filed by the 13-year-old's mother, alleging the church was more
concerned about damage control than her daughter's well-being.
