DUNCAN Okla_ An elderly Duncan woman remains
hospitalized in serious condition after police say she was hit by a car.
Police were
called to Elk, near Duncan's
hospital, after a 911 caller told them a woman had been hit by a car and was
lying in the roadway.
"She was attempting to cross Elk, which
is a five lane road," said Duncan Police Captain Brian Attaway. "The downfall
is that it was dark outside, and she was wearing a black shirt and dark colored
pants. The driver east on Elk never saw her, until it was too late."
Attaway said
the driver who hit the woman was not cited. Police believe she did everything
she could to avoid the accident that unfortunately happened away from a cross
walk.
"It's the
most lit area," Attaway said. "It's around the traffic signals. Drivers tend to
pay a little more attention around intersections. They don't normally expect
someone to step out in the road where there's not a crosswalk or where it's not
very lit."
The victim has
been identified as 70-year-old Malinda Chathan. She was taken to the OU Trauma
Center, where she remains in critical condition.
