Pioneer Gun Club Show ups security for large show turnout

Posted: Updated:

Thousands of people showed up for the Pioneer Gun Club Show Saturday at the Amarillo Civic Center with lines even backed up down the halls for hours.

Licensed gun dealers came from around the area to sell weapons, as well as ammunition and other merchandise. Organizers say they prepared for the larger crowd for this event because of all of the recent attention on gun control nationally. They even upped their security forces at the event with Amarillo Police Officers.

"With the times, we're as busy as we've ever been," said James Marten, Vice President of the Pioneer Gun Club. "We didn't expect quite this but it's wonderful. It'll help the club immensely to have this kind of crowd."

"We're wanting to preserve out Second Amendment right," added gun dealer from Liberal, Kansas Willie Vargas. "We feel like it's out duty to assure that our Second Amendment rights are never forgotten."

The Pioneer Gun Club hosts three gun shows each year.  Part of the proceeds raised are donated to groups like Boys and Girls Scouts or Boys Ranch, or any groups that encourage recreational shooting and gun education.
