Engineers dropping out of a windstorm certification program

Posted: Updated:

Texas - Hundreds of engineers have dropped out of a windstorm certification program following a requirement change.

More than 900 engineers participated in the program last year, but that dropped to only 200 this year.

The requirement change that has engineers concerned is a mandatory online course.

Structures need to be windstorm certified in order to be insured by the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association and to get financing.
