CU holds presentation on teaching military kids

Posted: Updated:

Lawton, Okla._Folks at Cameron University's Education Department got a lesson on teaching military and other mobile children Monday afternoon.

The purpose of the presentation was to raise awareness about the challenges faced by military-connected kids.

The talk was led by Dr. Sandy Franklin from the Military Child Education Coalition.

She says transitioning from school to school is the biggest challenge for military students.

"And with it comes a need for the people who are closest to the student or closest to the child to have a good understanding not only about what the concept of transition is about but about what the life of a military child consists of," Franklin said.

Dr. Franklin helped provide that understanding to a crowd full of future teachers, as well as area principals and educators. The group brainstormed to come up with strategies to help improve the education process of military students.
