Lawton man arrested after case of mistaken identity

Posted: Updated:

Lawton,Okla_A Lawton man is facing up to ten years in prison, after a mistaken identity led to his arrest. According to an affidavit, last Friday, officers saw 24 year-old Billy Roberts running from the EZGO on NW 24th Street and W Gore Blvd, toward a car with two other men inside it.

When the officer asked Roberts why he was running, he told them he was trying to catch a ride. Investigators say police stopped Roberts because he matched the description of a suspect in several armed robberies of local businesses.

During a criminal background check, police discovered Roberts had a warrant for his arrest out of Comanche County on drug possession charges. Police also found marijuana and some prescription pills in Roberts pocket.

Police arrested Roberts, who is now facing another drug possession charge.
