Police: 81-year-old NM man dies after ice slip

Posted: Updated:

CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say an 81-year-old Clovis man has died after slipping while shoveling snow in his driveway.

Clovis police Capt. Patrick Whitney said the man died Monday after he fell on ice, hitting the back of his head. He was later transported to Plains Regional Medical Center.

The man's name was not released.

The death came Monday during a blizzard that plowed through the South Plains in what meteorologists called the worst the area had seen in a decade. The storm packing 50 mph wind gusts left a wake of power outages and schools closings across eastern New Mexico and West Texas

As advertised, today was exceptional with lots of sunshine and comfy temperatures. We'll repeat it tomorrow before turning a bit unsettled at times next week.l
The pile of rain and storms that came through during the early afternoon hours will be out of our viewing area by tonight.
