Red Cross kicks off "Heroes" campaign

Posted: Updated:

Lawton_Fort Sill National Bank helped kick off the Lawton Red Cross chapter's "Heroes Campaign" by donating a check for $1,000 Friday.

It supplements the chapter's  annual budget, which isn't enough to keep all the  programs going.

"Heroes" take on the responsibility of raising $1,000 or more for the Red Cross.

Bank representative Jamie Southerland says since the bank's establishment 60 years ago, they've seen many of their customers go through natural and man made disasters.

"We definitely feel like we're part of this community and it's not only our duty, but our honor to do help out and do our share, so it feels great," Southerland said.

Red Cross Community Outreach Manager Daniel Farrell said the chapter's goal this year is $31,000.

"We can't wait until a major disaster and then go out and collect the money. We've got to collect the money now in preparation for a devastating effect of nature or other disasters," Farrell said.

The "Heroes Campaign" runs until June.
