Rehabmart.com, an online e-commerce company that sells rehabilitation and medical supplies, has joined into a distribution alliance with Kaye Products, Incorporated, to offer their adaptive positioning Kaye Corner Chairs to a larger consumer marketplace. Headquartered in Hillsborough, North Carolina, and incorporated in 1977, Kaye develops, designs and manufactures superior quality adaptive equipment and furniture for special needs children. Kaye's Founder, Janet Howle, PT, MACT, and C/NDT began the company with her husband when she could not find the right adaptive equipment to meet the needs of her own pediatric patients. They make a wide variety of pediatric adaptive equipment to address the wide variety of pediatric special needs in the real world. Their product lines include therapeutic equipment for rehabilitation and therapy, mobility products, and positioning products for standing and seating.
Providing external support for children who have inadequate postural control of the head, neck and trunk, the Kaye Corner Chairs highlight a corner-shaped back which helps to limit scapular retraction and shoulder extension. Essential for visual fixing and scanning, this postural control is also extremely important for healthier breathing, speaking and eating. These corner chairs prevent the young user from using their arms or shoulders for postural control, and instead, facilitate development of arm and hand mobility for exploration and manipulation by freeing the arms and hands for play.
The firm, padded insert converts the V-shaped back into a three-sided winged back, giving the young user enhanced spinal extension and support. This insert is also removable to provide even greater assistance in bringing the arms forward on the tray with the sides of the chair. The seat can be raised to position the user with hips and knees flexed, or it can be used in a lower position for longer sitting. To help maintain hip abduction with either knee extension or flexion, the removable abductor can be positioned in front of the seat, at the distal part of the femurs.
Available in two sizes with the option of casters, the Kaye Corner Chairs additionally feature a comfortable, adjustable headrest, a removable tray, and a seat belt that can be positioned across the hips for enhanced pelvic stability. “We are thrilled to introduce more consumers to the amazing Corner Chairs from Kaye Products,” said Hulet Smith, OTR/L, MBA and CEO of Rehabmart. “Perfect for school, clinic or home settings, these chairs offer proper positioning for special needs children that in turn will help them develop stronger physical and mental attributes.
