What has been one of the most successful basketball seasons in Cameron history has taken a shocking turn. Head coach Wade Alexander has decided to step down, just one day before the Aggies begin play at the Lone Star Conference tournament. Assistant coach Nate Gamet will take over the team on an interim basis.
It's not clear exactly what led to his sudden resignation. It's against Cameron University policy to discuss personnel matters.
Alexander led the Aggies to an 18-7 record this season, including a 13-5 mark in Lone Star play, their best LSC run in program history.
Since taking the job in 2008, Alexander has had Cameron trending up. He's led CU to four winning seasons in five years, including four conference tournament appearances.
