Okla. bill paves way for sale of state assets

Posted: Updated:

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A bill to create an eight-year state infrastructure plan and pave the way for the sale of some state-owned assets has passed the Oklahoma House.

The House voted 66-23 on Tuesday for the bill by House Speaker T.W. Shannon.

The bill would put the Long-Range Capital Planning Commission in charge of selling state assets that were determined to be underused. The commission would be directed to develop an eight-year plan for prioritizing state assets that are in need of physical repairs.

A separate state agency _ the Office of Management and Enterprise Services _ already has been charged with identifying some of the state's most underutilized assets.

Shannon says part of the goal of the measure is to reduce the need for state debt.
