A jail escapee who evaded police on a high speed chase in Donley County is back in police custody

Torrance Smith reportedly overpowered a female guard Tuesday at the Donley County Jail in Clarendon and stole her vehicle. He then led deputies on a chase at speeds over 100 miles an hour.

The chase ended when he collided with a deputy's vehicle. Smith will now face charges for evading arrest on top of seven existing felony counts of forgery.

Authorities say Smith is currently being treated at a Pampa hospital before he heads back to jail. No bystanders were injured in the incident.
