APD officer involved in shooting cleared of wrongdoing

Posted: Updated:

After an officer is involved shooting this past January, the Potter County Grand Jury has cleared that officer of all wrongdoing.

It happened January 12, 2013 at the Holiday Inn near I-40 and Ross. Officers were in the middle of an arrest when a woman stole van, ran it into the suspects car, then struck a patrol car and proceeded to turn back toward the officer. The officer feared being run over and fired three rounds at the van, missing the woman but stopping her long enough to arrest her.

Again, since being reviewed by the grand jury, the officer was found faultless and the woman, 20-year-old Natasha Ramirez was indicted Wednesday for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant.

"She had a few glass injuries from the broken glass, a few cuts, but the projectiles did hit the vehicle in the driver's area, but they did not hit her," said Potter County District Attorney Randall Sims.

Officer involved shootings typically result in that officer being placed on a minimum three day administrative leave. But officials say that didn't happen in this case, most likely, because Ramirez was not injured by the gunshots.
