Lawton, Okla_Over 100 women gathered at Lawton Christian School Tuesday to put the moves on heart disease. It was for the 9-1-1 "Make the Call, Don't Miss a Beat Celebration."
Comanche County Memorial Hospital in conjunction with the Lawton YMCA taught the 9-1-1 dance. It's focus is to teach women to recognize the symptoms of heart attack and get immediate treatment and it's all done through a repetitive song and dance.
CCMH Marketing Director Lori Cummins said, "we know that one of the participants in the event last year was having a heart attack and it was very unusual, had she not been to the dance and learned the symptoms she would not have thought she was having a heart attack but she did go to the hospital because she remembered the song and it saved her life, and that one person makes all of this worthwhile. So we're hopeful that if we reach 1, 100 or 1 million women we will get the word out."
Cummins encourages women not to wait to call 9-1-1, if you think you're experiencing heart attack symptoms. She says if more women play it safe, it could save lives.
