Teen tech safety class

Posted: Updated:

Lawton, Okla._Some local parents are better prepared to keep their teens safe on smartphones and tablets -- they got a crash course on the subject from Verizon wireless on Tuesday.

The company offered the free Teen Tech Safety classes to parents at the Lawton Public Library Tuesday afternoon.

The parents were given expert tips on how to manage and control the devices to protect kids and teens.

According to event coordinator Tom Nix, that's extremely important because many parents don't know how to do that.

"So many kids have cell phones from young kids up to teenagers. It's a whole new world from when you and I were growing up and with that technology out there it's good for parents to understand what their child can do with it," Nix said.

If you missed the class, Nix says Verizon offers regular smartphone courses throughout the year.

Just give them a call to find out about the next one.
