UPDATE: OHP Trooper fires at suspect during chase in Lawton

Posted: Updated:

Lawton-  OHP tells 7NEWS the suspect they were looking for in the overnight chase has been taken into custody. He's been identified as 20-year-old Kordney Allen of Lawton. More details as they come in.

  ORIGINAL STORY

Police, deputies and Oklahoma Highway Patrol are searching for a man who led a trooper on a car chase. That trooper ended up firing at the suspect.

Information is still coming in, but OHP says the trooper tried to stop the car for speeding south of Lawton. He later learned the car was reported stolen. When the driver would not pull over, a chase began. Comanche County Sheriff's deputies joined in and placed stop sticks near I-44 and Rogers Lane to stop the car. It worked, but the driver got out and ran away.

OHP says a trooper was threatened by what he believed was a weapon so he fired at the suspect. It's not clear if he was hit, but we're told the suspect, described as a black man with dreadlocks, got up and ran away.

Authorities are searching for him in the Mission Village neighborhood just southwest of Rogers Lane and I-44. They've also blocked off traffic on Rogers Lane from I-44 to Fort Sill Boulevard. You'll probably want to avoid the area this morning if possible.

We'll bring you more information as it comes in.
