Police investigating crash south of Lawton

Posted: Updated:

(Lawton)_  Police are investigating a vehicle crash and fire that killed one person just south of Lawton.

Lawton police and fire department received calls a little after 2:00 this morning about a car on fire under the I-44 bridge, about a mile south of the 11th St. exit.

Police are still trying to figure out what happened, but at this point they say it appears it was a single vehicle accident.  LPD says it looks like the car went off the road, hit the bridge, and caught on fire.  Initial reports were that the person appeared trapped in the car.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says southbound lanes of I-44 are still closed just south of Lawton near the 11th St. exit.

Count on 7News for updates on the I-44 closure and for new details on the crash.
