Oklahoma Flu Deaths Up To 33 As Season Winds Down

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - State health officials say 33 people have died from the flu in Oklahoma this season.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reports more than 1,000 hospitalizations are attributed to influenza so far this flu season, which runs from September until May.

In the 2011-12 flu season, the state recorded 316 hospitalizations and nine deaths.

According to the health department, Tulsa County has recorded the highest number of deaths this season at eight. Oklahoma County reports five deaths, while Comanche County has four deaths.

Most of those who died from the flu were 65 or older. The health department reports 27 of the 33 deaths happened to seniors, while five deaths happened to people ages 19 to 64. One child between the ages of 5 and 18 died from the flu.

    Lawton Police officers were able to help the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Police Department capture a man wanted for murder. Zakee Denzel Peterson was wanted for murder, robbery, criminal conspiracy, no license, and simple assault in Philadelphia. The Lawton Police Department’s Gang Unit went arrested Peterson on the warrant without incident.
