Fed. Emergency Unemployment Benefits To Be Reduced

Posted: Updated:

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission says federal budget cuts will mean a reduction in federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation payments.

The OESC said Friday that the federal payments to the jobless will be reduced by 10.7% starting March 31. The state agency says state-funded unemployment benefits will not be affected.

The program was established in July 2008 to provide an additional 14 weeks of payments to the long-term unemployed who are seeking a job. It is federally funded and is available when regular state unemployment benefits expire.

The OESC says it is sending notices to Emergency Unemployment Compensation recipients who will be affected by the cuts.
