Lawton,Okla_The fight against violence continued in Lawton Friday night with a prayer vigil. The event was held at the corner of Sheridan and Gore Blvd. The service opened with devotion and prayer led by local church ministers.
Friday nights prayer vigil was scheduled to provide prayer and support for local businesses, especially those who've been victims of crime. We spoke with the gospel group D.E.S., Double Edge Sword, to find out what they expected.
Angel, one of the members, said, "this is a busy intersection, so were hoping we can gather some of the other community members give them something positive to do on a Friday night. We're hoping they will hear the good music , come on over and they want to know what's going on so we can send them a positive message."
This is one of many events that have been held in Lawton in response to the crime that is crippling our communities. Saturday there will be a Stop the Violence Concert and Step Show.
Jamar Lockhart, one of the organizers said, "we just want to strongly encourage the community to come out support all the stop the violence movement ideas and agendas that we have going on, not just the one tonight or the one tomorrow. We just want to bring the community together in positive spirit and know that were doing our part in making the community a whole lot safer.
The youth is encouraged to attend. Saturday's event will be held at McMahon Auditorium from 2-4p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $10 or at the door for $15.
