Lawton Police Seize Meth Lab

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON Okla_ 7News has new information on the seizure of a suspected meth lab Tuesday night.

Police say they actually found ten small labs inside the home. They said they have two white men in custody, but they are not releasing the names yet. One is the owner of the house. Coincidentally, police already had them in custody on another charge when they busted the lab.

For several hours late yesterday, men in hazmat suits carried dozens of containers and bags out of the house and into the front yard. Lawton Police Lieutenant Larry Cochran said he isn't sure how long the meth lab had been operational, but police received a tip about the labs not too long ago.

"Anytime you can take ten one pot vessels off the street, methamphetamine labs of any sort, the hazards it causes to the community that the children that are around, and the explosive material that was found within that residence as well, that's great," Cochran said.

Scott Calley and Barbara Nichols moved in a few houses down from the bust back in August. They said they've been suspicious something bad was going on there.

"If you walked by there or even went through there with your car you could smell something god awful," Calley said, "But nobody did understand what the smell was."

"There were big arguments at that house there," Nichols said. "There must have been something bad there."

Lieutenant Cochran said the items they gathered have been sent to Oklahoma City to a certified lab to be analyzed and then destroyed.
