Posted: Updated:

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The first graduates from a program designed to divert female offenders from prison time are set for graduation.

The graduation ceremony for ReMerge of Oklahoma County will be held Monday at the Oklahoma History Center near the Capitol Building. ReMerge says it focuses on educating and treating mothers and pregnant women who have been convicted of nonviolent felonies such as drug use.

Former House Speaker Kris Steele is expected to be among those attending. Steele is the executive director of The Education and Employment Ministry, a non-profit group providing social services and job training free of charge.
