Robbery Determined to be Motive for Lawton Murder

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON Okla_ Robbery was the motive in the shooting death of a Lawton man Sunday night. An affidavit said the suspect, Robert Menard, tried to steal a rifle from the victim, Gino Scott.

It states Menard held Scott at gunpoint and then shot him in front of witnesses. After wrestling the gun away from Menard, the witnesses were able to hold him at gunpoint until police arrived. Authorities still haven't said how Menard was shot.

He was released from the hospital this afternoon and charged with first-degree murder, attempted robbery with a weapon and shooting with intent to kill.

He faces up to life in prison.
