Honoring Vietnam Veterans

Posted: Updated:

Lawton,Okla_Community leaders got a chance to recognize Vietnam Veterans at a special reception today.  The gathering was held at Cameron University and included  Retired General Gordon Sullivan.  He's a former Chief of Staff of the Army as well as a Vietnam Vet himself.

Sullivan is also the featured speaker at a veteran's ceremony Saturday in Lawton. It's all part of a weekend celebration to honor their service. Which is something former Fort Sill Commander and Vietnam Vet Toney Stricklin said is long overdue.

Stricklin also said "many of the Vietnam veterans were forgotten for many years because that war was a very unpopular war and there were a lot of people who spoke out against it." Events like this will hopefully keep that from ever happening again.

If you would like to show your support, you're invited to hear General Sullivan speak at the veterans ceremony Saturday at 11:00a.m at McMahon Auditorium.
