Amarillo police investigate armed robbery at local Subway

Amarillo police are looking for the suspect involved in an armed robbery Friday morning in Amarillo.

APD responded to that armed robbery call at the Subway on Western Friday morning just before nine. The man came into the store with a handgun demanding money from a store employee. He took the money and fled the store.

Although the employee was not harmed in the incident, officials with Amarillo Crime Stoppers say they still push for the public to call in with tips to help catch criminals like this one. Rewards are offered for helpful tips, and in select cases depending on the severity, Crime Stoppers has the option of upping the reward.

"We created this contract, it's a supplemental reward contract that we do," said Amarillo Crime Stoppers Cpl. Sean Slover. "Typically, it's going to be those higher thefts, homicides, violent robberies, things like that is the time we'll entertain even signing with someone on a supplemental reward contract."

Even still, Cpl. Slover says only about 60 percent of callers with good tips actually claim the cash rewards offered. Officials are still looking for the man suspected of robbing Subway. He's described as five foot eight inches tall, about 160 pounds and was last seen wearing a dark colored hoodie.

Trump's demand puts further pressure on the Justice Department, which later Sunday asked its watchdog to expand an existing probe of FBI actions, as the White House combats the threat posed by special counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing investigation.
