Okla. Dental Assoc. Infection Control Suggestions

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma Dental Association is offering tips on reducing the risk of infections following reports that a Tulsa oral surgeon possibly exposed about 7,000 patients to hepatitis and to the virus that causes AIDS.

The association said Monday that all dentists should follow precautions specified by the federal Centers for Disease Control. Those precautions include using masks, gloves, surface disinfectants and the sterilization of all reusable dental devices. Association President Dr. C. Todd Bridges says patients should also talk with their dentists about infection control.

Inspectors announced last week that unsafe practices were found at Tulsa-area clinics of Dr. W. Scott Harrington.
