Comanche Co. Health Department Celebrates Accreditation

Posted: Updated:

LAWTON, Okla_ Employees of the Lawton/Comanche County Health Department gathered Monday to celebrate the accomplishments of being one of just eleven health departments in the country to become accredited.

That means a lot to not only the employees, but also to the community and members of the state health department.

"It means that we met those national standards," Comanche County Health Department Administrative Director Brandie O'Connor said. "We're meeting those public health objectives at the local level for the communities that we served."

"This is really a validation of the great work that's taking place in Comanche County," Oklahoma State Health Department Director Terry Cline said. "It's really a testament to the work not just of the health department, but of the entire community."

Oklahoma has three of the eleven accredited health departments, including the Oklahoma State Department of Health, which is only the second state to become accredited.

Oklahoma County has also been accredited. The department will have to reapply for accreditation every five years, and submit yearly reports, but they say it's worth it.
