Several elections Tuesday in SW Oklahoma

SW Okla_ Voters in several southwest Oklahoma communities are heading to the polls on Tuesday to decide a number of council, mayoral and municipal government issues.

Voters in Elgin are getting ready to decide on possible sales tax increases and a mayoral election. The sales tax money would go for improvements to streets and parks. There are two tax questions on the ballot. One would allow for a .25 percent hike for parks and recreation facilities. The other is a .75 percent increase for street and road repairs.

Altus voters are set to decide three city council seats as well as a possible change to their form of government today. The city currently operates under a system which gives most of the control to the mayor. An item on the ballot would change that to a charter government, which would give many of those powers to a city administrator.

In Eldorado and Olustee, voters will decide on boards of trustees. Cache is holding a mayoral election.

The polls for all area elections are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Remember to have a government ID or your voter ID card.

You can count on 7NEWS and kswo.com for the results tonight.
