Slick roads cause multiple wrecks across Amarillo

Amarillo, TX - Slick road conditions resulted in multiple wrecks on area roads.

The Amarillo Police Department tells us they worked a total of 17 wrecks between 5:00 and 7:00 AM Wednesday.

Most of those are considered to be minor but an accident at I40 and FM 1912 left two people injured.

Officers say a vehicle rollover left the driver stuck inside, needing to be rescued.

He was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The passenger was transported with non-life threatening injuries.

Amarillo Police say there were also three wrecks along Hwy 60, near the Avenue I exit Wednesday morning.

Two of those were rollovers.

More than one person was transported to the hospital but all are said to be in non-life threatening condition.

There was another wreck at North Hughes and 1st Street.

We're told a vehicle lost control on the ice and side-swiped a Durham School Bus.

The bus had no children on board and no one was seriously hurt in the accident.

While officers were investigating this incident, an Amarillo Fire Department truck on scene was struck by a vehicle that couldn't stop in time.

There were no injuries and only minor damages to the fire truck.

Dense fog and icy conditions are also being blamed for several more wrecks across Amarillo.

On Grand Street Wednesday morning several vehicles were involved in accidents or were part of a chain reaction there.

Information on the exact number of vehicles involved is not yet available.

There were at least two accidents at Loop 335 and 24th Street.

Two people were transported from that scene with minor injuries.

There was also a minor two car wreck at Ross/Mirror and I40 which triggered additional accidents when other cars could not stop on the ice.

One ambulance transported from the scene, and tow trucks helped remove vehicles.

Police say they stopped receiving accident reports around 9 Wednesday morning.
