Honor Conner Fun Run raises money for children in Ghana

A colorful Fun Run got going early Saturday morning in Amarillo, starting with an art war and 5K run, all to support a great cause.

The 3rd Annual Honor Connor Fun Run was held Saturday morning at Bonham Middle School. The run supports a non-profit organization which helps to rescue children in Ghana from modern day slavery.  Over the years, these fun runs have helped build an art center for the children in Ghana, made in Conner Deals's memory who passed away in 2009 at the age of 12.

"With these fun runs we've built this center," said Nan Deal, Conner's mother. "Now we have a director there that is working with these kids and so today with this race we're hoping to maintain the building, keep our art director there and maybe possibly build another art center somewhere."

The group benefit's Conner's Song, whose mission states "The race starts in Amarillo and ends halfway around the world when a child is rescued from slavery".
