EHS Students Earn Awards at Business Leader's Conference

Posted: Updated:

A rejuvenated Eisenhower High School Future Business Leaders of America chapter returned home with two dozen honors from competition at this year's FBLA State Leadership Conference, held in Norman April 4-6.

The Eisenhower High chapter was reactivated last school year after a long period of inactivity. Nick Hutchins, who teaches computers and business at the high school, assumed the role of advisor.

The EHS FBLA chapter took top honors for the largest percentage increase in local chapter membership, along with second place in both the "Battle of the Chapters" and "Penny Wars" contests.

Individually, Eisenhower FBLA members won the following awards at the state level:

Justin Allen: public speaking, first place; business communications, second place.

Josh Blaylock: Sports management, first place; economics, third place; grammar skills, third place; FBLA telephone skills, third place.

Monica Cruz-Hernandez: Business law, second place; leadership, third place.

Nancy Snell: Grammar skills, second place; FBLA telephone skills, second place; business math, third place; business communications, third place.

Kendon Williams: Introduction to business, second place; introduction to technology concepts, second place.

Briana Woodard: Impromptu speaking, second place; sports management, third place.

Justin Zweig: Leadership, first place; economics, second place; personal finance, third place.

In addition, Allen and Woodard were named Who's Who in the FBLA Chapter.

All seven members who competed at the state level are eligible to advance to the national level in Anaheim, Calif., in June.

Accompanying the students to the state competition were three Eisenhower Middle School students – Sarai Pettie, Miray Soylu and Isa Sukar – who plan to be part of the FBLA chapter next year as freshmen.
