Comanche Nation Dancers Perform at Beginnings Academy

LAWTON Okla_ Some youngsters in Lawton got a hands-on cultural experience Tuesday. The Comanche Nation Dancers performed at Beginnings Academy.

Dressed head to toe in traditional costumes, dancers got children involved in the dances, all in hopes of passing along a little history.

"It's always good to educate young people," Comanche Nation Dancers Performance Coordinator Kevin Sovo said. "I enjoy it and get a lot of blessings out of it. We've been to schools where they still think we live in teepees, and we're still wild Indians."

Sovo said that dances like the ones demonstrated Tuesday are happening all over the country every single weekend. The dances give communities a time to gather and enjoy company and entertainment.

Their performance Tuesday was part of a celebration in honor of April being the Month of the Young Child.
