CGI Lays Off 240 Employees Due to Lack of Funds

LAWTON Okla_ The CGI office in Lawton sent notifications to 240 of its employees, stating that their positions would be eliminated effective Friday, April 12.

CGI's Vice President of Communications Linda Odorisio issued this statement on behalf of the company, after the employees received their notifications:

"Yesterday, the Department of the Army for the first time gave CGI definitive indications that there will not be additional funding in 2013 to support the important work that our employees have been doing as part of the FIRES Support Program.  This significant reduction has the unfortunate and immediate effect of causing the discontinuance of substantial portions of CGI's work in Lawton, effective close of business on Friday, April 12, 2013.

While CGI continues to advocate to restore or add funding to the FIRES Support Program so that our work can continue, barring any change in direction from the Department of the Army, CGI has made the difficult decision to inform the majority of our Lawton employees that their positions on this contract will be eliminated effective Friday and issued official notice pursuant to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification ("WARN") Act.

CGI is working with its affected employees to make this difficult transition as smooth as possible. As is standard practice within CGI, we are working with our impacted employees to identify available positions within CGI that align with their skills and experience.  CGI is grateful for the commitment our employees have shown to our clients and proud of what we have accomplished together for the Department of the Army."
