Schools and Churches Close as Tornado Warnings Issued

Posted: Updated:

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning in three southwestern Oklahoma counties as a strong storm system moves through the area.

The warning is for northeastern Tillman, southwestern Comanche and northwestern Cotton counties until 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. The weather service says the storm was six miles north of Hollister and moving northeastward.

A tornado watch remains in effect for much of Oklahoma until 11 p.m.

Forecasters at the Storm Prediction Center in Norman say there's a moderate risk of severe thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and night the possibility of tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds of up to 75 mph.

Large thunderstorms are possible across far southwestern Oklahoma and western north Texas this evening. Forecasters say very large hail and tornadoes are likely with any severe storm that develops.
