Amarillo, TX - A well-known TV personality is using her recent battle with breast cancer to help educate area women in a "Hollywood size" Power of the Purse event.

E! News Anchor and TV personality, Giuliana Rancic is helping raise awareness for breast cancer. Rancic's battle with breast cancer has been very public. She revealed she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer in 2011 and a few months later underwent a double mastectomy.

She shared her ups and downs at Wednesday's "Power of the Purse" event and encouraged women to try and find the positive in every situation. "It was the hardest time of my life. It was certainly a dark time in my life...but as some point I was able to see a little flicker of light and figure out how to move on from this and how I can be a better person from this, and how I can take this negative and horrible experience and make something positive of it," said Rancic.

Hundreds of designer handbags were donated and auctioned off Wednesday. The event is put on by the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health and this year the money raised will benefit the SiMCentral program, a local clinical simulation center that provides hands-on training to students and residents.

Last year's event brought in $145,000 dollars.

They do not suspect foul play, and say the death may have been accidental. The medical examiner was on scene, police are waiting for his report to complete their investigation.
