Okla. House Kills Texting And Driving Ban Again

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma House for the third time this session has derailed a proposal to ban texting while driving.

The latest text ban attempt came in the form of an amendment by Democrat Rep. Curtis McDaniel on a bill dealing with reckless driving penalties. The amendment was tabled Tuesday with a 49-37 vote.

Earlier this session McDaniel introduced a texting ban bill, which passed a House committee but never came to a vote on the floor. He then tried adding the ban as an amendment to another bill, which also failed. McDaniel says he'll keep trying.

House Minority Leader Scott Inman blasted the amendment's failure Tuesday, saying the chamber didn't have "have the guts" to bring it to an actual vote. He said 39 other states ban texting while driving.
