UPDATE: Suspects in custody in Walters child neglect case

Posted: Updated:

WALTERS Okla_ The Cotton County Sheriff's office says the suspects in a Walters child neglect case are now in custody. We're told Mary and William Seybold were arrested Wednesday night at their home and booked into the county jail on warrants.

ORIGINAL STORY

7News has learned of disturbing allegations of child neglect in Walters, after a young autistic girl is found living in filth.

Police are now looking for two adults accused of leaving the child alone with a mentally challenged adult for more than two months.

Mice, roaches and trash two inches thick pollute the home. Police say the 7-year-old girl was living in these conditions. They say you could smell the stench of urine and feces from the door, which is guarded by a pack of dogs.

Inside, police say the girl, who suffers from seizures, was un-bathed and her eczema so inflamed that her head was scaling. She's in custody of the Department of Human Services.

Police have issued arrest warrants for William and Mary Seybold. They say the couple sent a friend over once a week to bring food and check on the girl's medications, but the friend said he had no idea they'd been gone so long.

Police have talked to Mary Seybold over the phone but still don't know where the couple is. They're facing charges of child neglect and desertion.

The name Mary Seybold may sound familiar to some of you. Back in 2006, her two foster children died after becoming trapped in a hot van in Cache. You may remember the five and six-year-old were home with their 15-year-old babysitter when it happened. The babysitter was reportedly inside playing video games while the girls played outside alone.

Seybold told police she found the girls in the van after returning home from work. No charges were ever filed in that case.
