Information for West explosion memorial service

A memorial service to remember the firefighters and first responders who died in the tragic West explosion will be held Thursday at the Ferrell Center on the campus of Baylor University. The service is organized by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and Texas Line of Duty Death Task Force.

The service will be attended by the families of the first responders, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, the Governor of Texas Rick Perry and other elected officials. President Obama and Governor Perry will deliver remarks.

The event is open to the public and space will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.

VENUE INFORMATION

The memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Doors at the Ferrell Center will open at 11 a.m. and will remain open until 1:45 p.m. or capacity.

All attendees will go through airport-like security and should bring as few personal items as possible. No bags, sharp objects, umbrellas, liquids, firearms, or signs will be allowed in the venue. Cell phones and cameras will be permitted.

PARKING

Public parking will be available in lots C and D at the Ferrell Center. Public parking will also be available at Floyd Casey Stadium with shuttles starting at 10 a.m.

STREET CLOSURES

University Parks from Babgy Avenue to LaSalle Avenue will be closed starting at 10:30 a.m. to approximately 5:00 p.m.

University Parks from Gurley Avenue to LaSalle Avenue will be closed starting at 10:50 a.m. to approximately 1:00 p.m.

LaSalle Avenue (Business 77) will be closed from 1st Street to Marlin Highway (South Loop).

For the entirety of the event, University Parks Drive between Babgy Avenue and LaSalle Avenue, and LaSalle between University Parks Drive and Marlin Highway (South Loop), will remain closed.
