Workers' Comp, Drivers' Insurance on AMBUCS Luncheon Agenda

LAWTON Okla_ Oklahoma Insurance Commissioners praised the progress on workers' comp reform during a meeting with the Lawton AMBUCS club Thursday.

John Doak said it appears the Senate will follow suit and approve the bill the House passed Wednesday. The bill changes the state's system from a court-run process to an administrative process.  Doak believes the new system will ultimately improve Oklahoma's economy.

"Every business in our state, it now puts us on a level playing field with Texas," Doak said.  "We want these businesses to stay, so our kids will have an opportunity to stay in Oklahoma, and that won't be one of the issues."

Doak also talked about the problem of uninsured drivers in the state. He said statistics show 1 out of 4 drivers, about 560,000 people, don't have insurance.

He said that is something that must be fixed, because of the rising cost that is ultimately shifted to those who do have insurance.

    A Lawton man said he rented a house to a group of people who trashed the place, then burned down his shed, and left several dogs for dead inside the home.
