Lawton Elementary School on Alert During Search Warrant Pursuit

LAWTON Okla_ As a result of the narcotics search warrant served at 19th and Elm, Whittier Elementary School remains on heightened alert until further notice.

Heightened sense of alert means all operations inside the school continue as normal, but no one is allowed to go outside. The Walking School Bus at Whittier Elementary has been canceled at the end of today.

There is a heightened police presence in the neighborhood surrounding the school. There is no need for parents to pick their students up from school early. LPS officials feel relatively certain they'll be able to dismiss school at the normal time today.

Police served a search warrant at a home, the suspect fled on foot, and police now have him cornered at a house north of the school.

They have the house surrounded.

This is confirmed to be unrelated to the reported shooting at 23rd street earlier today.
