Governor Mary Fallin signs bill that will change Firefighters Pension System

Oklahoma City(AP)_Oklahoma firefighters pension system will be changing. Friday Governor Mary Fallin signed a bill that will shore up the unfunded liability. Some of the major changes affect newly hired firefighters.

In order to become eligible, they must work for 22 years, instead of the current 20 and be at least 50 years old. They also have to wait 11 years versus 10 to become vested. The amount of money firefighters, cities, and the state pay each year will also be increasing.
