Lawton, Okla._Paint, tires, prescription meds and bulk items including refrigerators were all properly disposed of today during Lawton's Annual Trash Off Campaign.
Thousands of people headed to the McMahon Auditorium parking lot bringing their unwanted or hard to dispose of items there for the city to dispose of properly. The event is held every year to help protect Mother Earth and citizens across Oklahoma.
While many of the items collected will make it to the landfill others won't, instead they'll be recycled and re-purposed.
"We actually had one truck this size that we took off earlier around noon and these two trucks will be full in the next couple minutes when we get everything loaded up so three trucks is very good for us," said Missy Beets
Those who took advantage of today's trash off didn't need to be a resident of Lawton. Nothing was too big to handle or too messy. Tens of thousands of pounds in paint, electronics, furniture, and tires were collected.
