Tractor-trailer destroyed by overnight fire

Lawton- Oklahoma Highway Patrol says one lane of I-44 southbound is now open following a tractor-trailer fire.

It happened around 5 a.m. between Lee Boulevard and 11th Street in Lawton's city limits. The driver and two passengers were able to escape. They say they saw flames coming from the passenger side of the truck before they engulfed the cab. Investigators say it appears a piston came off the truck and started the fire.

We're told the trucker was hauling engines to California.
